Shaoguan University is a state-run comprehensive institution, located in Shaoguan city Guangdong Province. Shaoguan city is in the northern part of Guangdong Province, which is the gateway to northern China. Shaoguan is a modern city with convenient transport facilities, and it is the Excellent Tourism City in China. It is also known for the famous historical and cultural heritage. With unique natural landscape-geological park Danxia Mountain which is famous throughout the world, National Forest Park Nanling Forest Park whose environment is quiet and beautiful, Nanhua Temple which is the key temple in China and the birthplace of Chan Sect-a genre of Buddhism, the climate here is mild and pleasant all the year long.

Shaoguan University was founded in year 1958. It is the only comprehensive university in north Guangdong Province. Shaoguan University is one of the Top 100- -University in Liberal Arts in China. The campus covers 1.67 million square meters, with elegant environment and convenient living facilities. It has nurtured more 80000 graduates in its 50-year history. There are over 16,000 full-time students and more than 10,000 students in adult education studying in the university. The University has 10 Colleges, they are College of Liberal Arts, Medicine, Foreign Languages, etc; and 10 departments directly subordinated to the University. Seventy-seven majors are offered in the university, ranging from Chinese Language and Literature, Law, Medicine to Art, Chemistry and Computer Science. Thirty-three professional institutes and more than 40 specialized laboratories are built here. The University has the number of 1505 faculties. Since year 2000, teachers have chaired and participated in more 420 research projects at various levels. They are rewarded 24 national patents and 13 Scientific and Technological Progress Awards at national, provincial and municipal levels, one of which got the Second Prize of State Scientific and Technological Progress Award.
